ISA Peru Service Trip Funding Program

The Big Problem:

The International Student Association’s Peru service trip was started by a group of Peruvian students in ISA after Chincha, Peru, an impoverished coastal area about three hours south of Lima, was flattened by a 7.8 earthquake in 2007. Since 2011, 10-15 students per year from ISA have been visiting Peru over spring break to help provide food relief and rebuild schools, community centers, and homes for especially needy families. Going on the service trip has enabled students to participate in a dialogue on campus about how best to engage with and make an impact on communities abroad.

How the Peru service trip will help:

A group of students will work together to improve the quality of life for local residents, many of whom have been living in temporary housing since the earthquake in 2007. Each house will contain three rooms including cooking and sleeping spaces, as well as a detached toilet.

What your support will do:

Since this is an entirely student-run project, it is difficult for us to meet the financial needs of our vision. During the academic school year, members of ISA have been and will continue to raise money for this project through a variety of fundraising activities. However, despite our own fundraising efforts, we will not be able to fully cover our expenses. With your help, we know we can make this experience possible for Northwestern students. We ask you for your generous contribution—no matter the amount—to our cause to our cause.
