"The best part of the Peru service trip was building four houses for families and seeing its impacts on all of us. Honestly speaking, I was unsure whether we could finish building all four houses because it requires teamwork and commitment. However, we worked really hard by assigning different tasks to each of us and building trust of each other. After hours and hours of working under the sun, we witnessed that we made it and that families were sincerely thankful of our work. I still vividly remember the first house we built because kids who would be living in the new house were very excited and were willing to help us. They actually helped me paint walls of the house and we got pretty close. Even though they were living in a very unsafe and unclean environment, these kids were so happy and begged me to play "hide and seek" with me. I was heartbroken to see that the playground they went to play hide and seek was unbelievably unclean; there were garbages and flies everywhere and it was hard to breathe. After spending time with these kids and interacting with other local people, I promised to myself that I will never forget all of these experiences in Peru and that I will work in the future to make impacts on communities to better others' lives."

"The trip to Peru is hard to put into words. We were able to have so many different and incredible experiences within a mere 8 days. We were able to help four different families to acquire a brand new home. Hammering and painting the day away, we completed four houses in two days. This experience opened my eyes to a world I had not experienced first hand before. The poverty and means of living was beyond anything I had seen. But regardless of the conditions the Peruvian locals were some of the most gracious people I have met. They continued to thank us for being brothers in God and for all of our help. On top of this service experience, I was able to see Cusco and Machu Picchu with some of the group. Machu Picchu was unlike anything I had ever seen, or probably will see for that matter. We submitted a nearby mountain first that overlooked the ruins. My favorite picture came from this rigorous hike. The ruins were insanely beautiful and grand. All in all, I am so thankful for this experience."

Although we did not end our end goal, with your support, we raised a total of $806, which will help us provide 8 students' transportation, food, and housing for a day during the trip.

We are one step closer to making this trip an annual service opportunity. If interested, please look out for an information session and a sign-up link sometime during the fall quarter next school year.
