Northwestern JASA (Japanese American Student Association) is looking to fund a newly created community-building project of ours, titled Matcha Meet-Ups. At our Matcha Meet-Ups, we hope to engage in discussions relevant to Japanese and Asian American related experiences, culture, and build a safe and welcoming community. Starting Matcha Meet-Ups, beginning in the spring quarter of 2019, we hope to create a space that will foster a community of Japanese Americans, as well as increase the diversity and cultural awareness on campus as a whole. In doing this, we will be able to work toward accomplishing our organization’s mission.
This series of events will be free and open to all those who are interested. We hope that the Matcha Meet-Ups will become an extension of JASA’s mission—bringing together more than just Northwestern undergraduates—we hope to create a welcoming and open space for Japanese American community members, graduate students, faculty, and beyond.
With this gift amount we can start to gather the matcha we need to bring together the community.
Come for the people, stay for the snacks (and people too hopefully)! With this gift amount we can attract a larger group of people, fuel the discussions, and help to create an insightful event.
Spread the word with us! With this gift amount we would be able to promote our events for maximum success! This would cover costs of printing flyers and posters.
Let’s go on an adventure! With this gift amount, we can fund the transportation needed to visit different cultural centers and locations relevant to our topic of discussion during some of the events. Field trips are the best type of trips.
With this gift amount we would be able to purchase a Tea-Cere Matcha tea maker. This would allow us to have matcha tea at our events and serve traditional matcha tea at our meet-ups.
With this gift amount we would be able to make our Matcha Meet-Ups shine—by inviting speakers to talk at one of the meet-ups about a topic relevant to the Japanese American community.
