We’ve SURPASSED OUR GOAL!

May 31, 2017

First of all, we need to extend our sincere gratitude to the generous supporters of our Catalyzer project, we literally could not have done it without you! You have contributed to BIG potential for our small organisms. On behalf of all of us here on the 2017 iGEM team, we want to celebrate our amazing donors.

Let’s keep the momentum going with less than 24 hours left!

Our Project!

May 25, 2017

We are excited to announce that we will be continuing the 2016 Northwestern iGEM team's project this summer! We will be trying to solve the problem of antibiotic resistance by making bacteria produce "bubbles" known as Outer Membrane Vesicles (OMVs) containing a form of molecular scissors. We hope that with sufficient further development, these vesicles could be used in conjunction with traditional antibiotics to allow treatment of resistant infections.

50% Funded!!!

May 17, 2017

HALFWAY THERE!!!

Due to continued and generous support from update-readers like you, we have now crossed the halfway mark to our goal! That means we’re 50% closer to editing our first gene, 50% closer to growing our first culture, and 50% closer to synthesizing our first protein! Who knew generosity could multiply so quickly?

We still have a long way to go, but we’re confident we can make it thanks to your generous support! → https://catalyzer.northwestern.edu/project/6600

25% Milestone Reached!!!

April 26, 2017

Wow! Thanks to generous donors, we’re 25% of the way to our funding goal! We’ve come so far since we started this project, and our progress couldn’t have evolved without your help!

We appreciate all the help we’ve received so far, and even though we have a long way to go, we are honored to have your support as we move forward. Here are some fun facts about what supplies we now have thanks to your support:

  • 10 Genes!

  • 25 Microcentrifuge tube racks!

  • 50 PCR Primers!

We look forward to keeping you updated on our progress as we look toward the future of synthetic biology research.

$10

PCR Primers

We need to make DNA, and we need to make a lot of it. With your support, we can amplify DNA a million times in just a few hours.

$20.17

Microcentrifuge tube rack

Great for all of your microcentrifuge tube-organizing needs. Seriously someone keeps stealing mine.

$50

Your favorite gene

One gene can encode a bright green protein, kick-start a new cell function, or possibly kill the cell. We have a lot of favorite genes, so every bit helps.

$75

DNA purification kit

Cells are messy, especially dead e. Coli (don’t worry, the safe kind). Help us clean them up so we can use their DNA to create a great project.

$150

Spectrophotometer fund!

Help replace our old and possibly dysfunctional spectrophotometer (“light absorbance measurer”) by supporting 1/16 of a new machine!
