Our Crowdfunding Groups
The Summer Internship Grant Program (SIGP) supports Northwestern students participating in unpaid summer internships.
Often, students are unable to accept valuable internships in fields they are passionate about, simply due to the fact that they need to cover their own living expenses. Internships, including those that are unpaid, are a career development opportunity. Through them, interns can gain professional skills and find mentors and connections in their chosen industry.
Since 2007, SIGP has made unpaid internships accessible to Northwestern undergraduates who might not otherwise be able to accept them. In 2016, over 350 Northwestern students received grants of at least $3,000 to participate in unpaid summer experiences—the highest number awarded in SIGP’s history. These students completed their summer experiences in 25 states; Washington, DC; and 25 international locations.
This year, SIGP received applications from 792 students and was able to award funding to a significant number—but the program was not able to meet the needs of all of our students.
