About Us
Founded in 2010, Applause for a Cause is Northwestern University’s only student-run film organization that writes, produces, directs, edits, and premieres a feature-length film each year. It is also the only student film organization that raises money for a philanthropic cause, and the only student group of its kind nationwide. Each year, Applause donates the proceeds from our film’s screening to that year’s chosen beneficiary; It is our mission to use our love of filmmaking to make a difference in our local community. Past films have successfully raised thousands of dollars for local and national causes.
This year's project
For our 13th production, we have chosen to produce Mixed Signals, written by Northwestern senior Nathaniel Unger. Mixed Signals follows Annie, Trevor, and Cal, three college friends on vacation in a mysterious house with an old satellite TV. When the three characters discover the remote allows them to swap places with the television characters, hijinks ensue.
Once we wrap production and host our premiere, 100% of ticket sales will go towards supporting our beneficiary, 826 Chicago: a nonprofit organization dedicated to amplifying the voices of Chicago youth. In addition to our donation, The entire Mixed Signals team will participate in volunteer work with 826 CHI for some philanthropic cast and crew bonding!

To produce Mixed Signals, we need all the help we can get! Necessary tasks such as upgrading our equipment, renting locations, and securing props would be impossible to achieve without the appropriate resources. We invite you to become a part of our film by supporting our project.
