Who are we? Formed in 1996, Purple Haze a cappella has been singin’, dancin’, and lovin’ around the world for 25 YEARS. And in order to celebrate a quarter century of music making with our Purple Haze family, we need your help!!!
Completely run by students, Purple Haze rehearses several times a week and puts on a killer show every quarter. Purple Haze performs regularly in themed shows on campus and off throughout the school year, sharing our music with others throughout the Chicagoland area and beyond. This includes the ICCAs (International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella), where we biannually compete. Recently, we could be seen as 2018 Midwest Quarterfinal Champions and recipients of the 2020 Midwest Quarterfinal Best Soloist Award for Purple Haze alto Emily Pate-Somé! Furthermore, Purple Haze takes our talents on tour each year to places all over the world. We’ve explored every corner of the US with trips to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Washington, DC, and Los Angeles, California, while also traveling overseas to places such as Canada, The Netherlands, Cuba, Ireland, and more!
Purple Haze has released nine studio albums, available for streaming and download on iTunes and Spotify. We are currently in the process of recording our 10th studio album! Our cover of "Pretty Hurts" was selected for the 2017 track list of Voices Only, an annual compilation album comprised of songs from collegiate groups around the world. A cappella podcast Mouth Off called us "the best you're going to hear out of the whole Midwestern United States" and "the group that everyone wants to party with"!
But most importantly, Purple Haze is a group of friends (we call it a PHamily) who love to sing together and spread love through music making.
Our project goal is as follows: This spring, Purple Haze is hosting TWENTY PHIVE: A 25th Anniversary Celebration. A concert meant to honor Purple Haze members, songs, and memories of the past, this will be a can’t-miss event. Unfortunately, there are incredible financial hurdles that persist in putting on such an event, and that’s why we need your help! We aim to raise 2600 or more to put toward costs associated with our 25th anniversary. Whether this be our venue rental, audio & video costs, or purchases of décor and more, every gift goes a long way in making this event a possibility.
A gift of $10 covers the cost of printing colored programs for two audience members!
A gift of $15 covers the cost of printing 3 sets of sheet music for an alumni!
A gift of $25 covers the cost of marketing materials (e.g., posters, graphic design) to increase audience and alumni turnout.
A gift of $50 covers the cost of one night of rehearsal in the performance space.
A gift of $75 covers the cost of some of our decorations for the performance venue.
A gift of $100 covers the cost of equipment rentals for one performance of the show.
A gift of $150 covers the cost of our performance venue for one night of performances.
A gift of $250 covers the cost of a sound recordist and videographer to document our performances!
