Our Team:
Northwestern Formula Racing (NFR) is a team made up of more than 70 students from across the University, including the McCormick School of Engineering. We design, build, test, and race an open-wheel formula-style car every year. The design and construction of our vehicle provides students with the opportunity to supplement their world-class education with an aggressive practicum.
Our members work across five technical concentrations including aerodynamics, chassis, electronics, power train, and suspension. NFR is a small organization, and beyond technical application, our team sees opportunities to develop and exercise their expertise in all areas of operation, including management, communication, finance, marketing, and leadership.
Our Competition Class: Formula SAE
As registration allows, we compete annually at two events sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), one at the Michigan International Speedway and another previously held in Lincoln, Nebraska, now held in California. Each contains a week-long series of presentations and events in which vehicles are scored both by their performance on the track and by evaluation by leading industry professionals.
The design cycle for NFR21 is already underway.
How to Help:
Thank you!
Our ambitious endeavors would not be possible without your support. We hope you join us in building NFR21 and the next generation of engineers.
From aluminum blanks and steel sheets, to brake lines and microcontrollers. Help us build and put a subcomponent on the car.
Get us rolling. Help us put a small part, like a new battery, in our car.
Give us rubber to burn. A car without wheels is a hard sell. Help us put one on the car.
Put your name on our car and push us toward the finish line by supplying us with an integral component like a new Yamaha R6 engine.
Increase the size of your logo on our vehicle and help us get our carbon fiber to keep the car strong and light.
Send us a steel tube frame for 2021’s race car to hold all parts together and keep the driver safe. Also includes an invitation to all major team events, such as driving and testing days.
