Our Crowdfunding Groups
Whether it's take one or take nine, the behind-the-scenes work of film is never easy, and for most directors, filmmaking is a labor of love. This is especially true of women in film, whose groundbreaking work shatters the glass ceiling of the industry.
Who are we?
The Northwestern University Women Filmmakers Alliance (NUWFA), is a student group dedicated to unifying, educating and promoting female filmmakers not only at Northwestern, but in the Chicago area as well. We promote the development of visual media created by women, aiding women filmmakers in production, and encouraging women's involvement as leaders in the Radio/Television/Film community at Northwestern.
Each year, we give a grant to a short film project with a woman as the writer, director or producer. Along with the grant we host an annual Speakers Pannel, drawing in industry professionals from the L.A., New York, and Chicago areas. Througout the year we hold workshops that target different interests within the R/TV/F community.
What's our project?
The Northwestern University Women Filmmakers Alliance seeks to unify, educate, and empower female filmmakers by aiding and encouraging women in production. NUWFA recognizes that talented women in film deserve an early shot at bringing their work to life, and we hope you'll join us in this mission. The Catalyzer funds will aid in the filmmaking process of creative women, non-binary people, and trans folks who have the drive and determination to see their visions come to life on screen.
Our goal is to raise $3,000 to assist talented young filmmakers in creating their own short films, and we are excited to have your support. Elevating these voices benefits the entire crew of the film and the audience it reaches, as well as promoting the work of individuals who might otherwise face barriers to entry in this industry.

- Attend NUWFA events! We hold many virtual and in-person events throughout the year to promote our filmmakers and work towards creating a safe, inclusive space for young women entering the film industry.

Contingency plan:
If films are unable to be made this year, any money raised will go to our, possibly virtual, speaker events, another important part of the work that NUWFA does, which will be happening virtually this year no matter what.
With your $10 donation, we can purchase props that will help create realistic settings for our actors and bring the film to life!
Whether it's a historically-based or contemporary story, costumes are essential to a film's production. With your $20 donation, we can buy or rent the most fitting wardrobe for our actors!
With your $75 donation, we can rent out a location to rehearse and film our scenes!
Your $125 donation is helping students rent the necessary filming equipment!
With your $250 donation, we can offer paid positions for student editors and colorists!
With your $500 donation, we can finish up post-production and enter the film into festivals! It's so exciting to see our films on the big screen!
