CampusCATALYST

Who are we?

campusCatalyst engages college students in pro bono consulting projects for local nonprofits, catalyzing community growth and the development of future leaders. We serve as a bridge between Northwestern University and the community that surrounds it by offering a for-credit, experiential learning program that pairs teams of students in consulting partnerships with nonprofits. By introducing students to the social sector through a different lens–-one that places them at a peer-to-peer level with nonprofit management, Catalyst encourages a new breed of volunteerism, and in turn, a new breed of volunteers. We serve 75 students, 15 local nonprofits, and 15 MBA mentors annually.

Each quarter, 25 Northwestern students enroll in a highly selective course through the Kapnick Business Institutions Program, called Lessons in Nonprofit Management. In addition to weekly seminars, students spend the quarter completing a pro bono consulting project for a local nonprofit. Under the guidance of their professor and an MBA mentor from the Kellogg School of Management, students receive hands-on consulting experience while building the capacity of local nonprofits.

What is our goal?

Our goal is to raise $5,000, enough operating funds to last until our 10-year anniversary three years from now. campusCatalyst began with a number of grants, which are quickly running out. In order to remain operational, we need approximately $1,666 per year, or $5,000 for the next three years.

Our needs:

At the beginning and end of each quarter we hold a Kickoff and Final Presentation. Kickoffs are a great opportunity for clients to meet their consulting teams, for mentors to meet their mentees, and for everyone to learn more about the structure of the program. During final presentations, nonprofits and MBA mentors are invited to watch students present their final deliverables to their clients, professor, and peers.

Each quarter we need to recruit 25 students to take the course in the coming season. We pride ourselves on a competitive application process. In order to receive more than 40 applications, we need to host two information sessions per quarter.

One of our goals at campusCatalyst is to create an alumni network of passionate students who stay connected with Catalyst long after the quarter is. In order to foster student and program team relationships, we hold events where students, alumni, mentors, and program team mentors have the opportunity to network with one another.

We need funds for hosting three kickoffs, three final presentations, six information sessions, and three networking events per year, as well as advertising and maintaining our website.
