FEED THE SOUND
Who We Are
Formed in 1996, Purple Haze has been singin', dancin', and lovin', for 20 years! Completely run by students, we rehearse weekly and put on a killer show every quarter. Every fall, we welcome other a cappella groups from nearby colleges to perform in our annual invitational, Best of the Midwest. In the winter, we combine a cappella with games and improv in Too Much a Cappella Makes the Baby Go Deaf, inspired by Chicago's own Neo-Futurist Theatre Company. Finally, each spring, we devise a new script to go with our songs and the theme of our choosing.
Aside from shows at Northwestern, Purple Haze also performs in the Chicagoland area, has produced eight studio albums, and competes biennially in the International Competition of Collegiate a Cappella.
Our members range from theater majors to journalism majors to psychology majors and everything in between. While we do pride ourselves on maintaining high standards of musicality in the competitive and vibrant Northwestern a Cappella scene, Purple Haze is most importantly a family that loves to make music together.
Our Project
The 2015–16 school year marks Purple Haze's 20th anniversary. This is a milestone occasion for us, and with it we are putting on a show to end all shows. We are inviting Purple Haze alumni and the Northwestern/Evanston community to join us May 13 and 14 for this celebratory event. As this show is the largest in our group’s history, it is also going to be the most expensive.
Our Goal
Through our fundraising, our goal is to raise $2,500. This money will go toward all costs of securing a venue as well as production costs for our anniversary performance.
