WNUR strives to provide a forum for underrepresented music and ideas. By pursuing the cultural, intellectual, and artistic aspects of radio, WNUR promotes musicians, musical genres, news, public affairs issues, and athletic events often overlooked by major media outlets. Because it is completely independent of commercial pressures, WNUR has the opportunity to provide unique and challenging programming throughout the world. Not only is WNUR a station that produces a signal that can be heard by 3 million potential listeners throughout the Chicagoland area at 89.3 FM, but also WNUR streams on the Web to listeners around the world at www.wnur.org.
WNUR is Northwestern's student radio, but it's much more than just college radio. WNUR is a non-commercial, listener-supported radio station. Without the dedicated support from our community of listeners, we would not be able to provide such a diverse and ever-developing programming. WNUR exists in a community--your support allows us to keep bringing to you the programming we all love.
Although WNUR is student-run, its roster of DJs comprises both students and members of the WNUR community. These DJs are able to share their experience, knowledge and passion with the students, creating an incredible learning community. Programming ranges from jazz to all kinds of experimental rock to house music and everything in between. We host top notch talk radio, news reporting and sports broadcasts for talkers; techies join Airplay, our long standing in-studio performance segment which has previously hosted bands like OK GO, Jeff Tweedy of Wilco and the Smashing Pumpkins. With over 60 years of tradition, some of our famous alumni include Win Butler, Steve Albini, and Derrick Carter. Please join us in celebrating WNUR by demonstrating your support.
