9 to 5: The Musical (Arts Alliance)

Producer Noah Kudman ‘20 and director Gaby Godinez ‘21 are thrilled to announce 9 to 5: The Musical as Arts Alliance’s Fall McCormick show, one of the most beloved and well-attended student theatre slots at Northwestern. This adaptation of the hit 1980 film is gut-bustingly funny with a catchy score by Dolly Parton while remaining extremely relevant in the #MeToo era. We aim to use this show both as a way to engage in dialogue about gender discrimination in the workplace while also spreading joy to our audiences during the dreary time that is the end of fall quarter. This production will also provide new students with one of their first opportunities to be a part of student theatre at Northwestern and will hopefully inspire them to continue its legacy of art and professionalism that has been created by countless alumni.

We need your help to make our production the best it can be! Being one of the largest student shows of the year, this musical requires costumes for a large cast, a set to create the world of a 1970’s Texan office space, lights to fill up McCormick auditorium, and much more. By donating to our show, you are helping to ensure that it meets the high expectations our audiences have and that new students know the high quality of product that can be achieved at Northwestern.

ARTS ALLIANCE

Arts Alliance is the oldest student-run arts group at Northwestern University. Founded by a collection of groups looking to share space, Arts Alliance has grown to become one of the largest student arts organizations in the country. Centered around a mission of accessibility, Arts Alliance continues to produce work for the Northwestern and greater Evanston communities. As the conversations surrounding accessibility in the arts have evolved over our 46 years as an organization, we have welcomed growth and change in order to remain true to our mission. In our 2018–19 season, we are proud to produce three mainstage productions, Mee-Ow Improv & Sketch Comedy, and special events throughout the year. We continue to stay committed to creating accessible art that reflects, deepens, and challenges the greater Northwestern community. Arts Alliance produces five shows a year under the umbrella of accessibility. Admission to each of our productions is completely free, and striving to create works that speaks to our three pillars of “Art that is easy to reach,” “Art that is easy to relate to,” and “Art that is easy to speak with.” Our fall shows are the campus’ primary recruiters of first-year theatre majors, and we prioritize freshmen in our fall outreach efforts in hopes of introducing them to the positive environment in which they will spend their four years on campus.
