Alternative Spring Break 2019

Alternative Spring Break 2019

Send 24 Northwestern Law Student Volunteers to Provide Legal Aid in Mississippi over Spring Break!

Our volunteers have already made a financial contribution to their respective trips and will pay for their meals and personal expenses throughout the week. Still, WE NEED YOU to help us get to our sites and to secure lodging accommodations during the week. Take a look below at what we're doing in each city!

JACKSON, MS

6 students will travel to Mississippi's state capital to serve alongside the dedicated attorneys and staff at the Mississippi Center for Justice. With a mission to build healthy communities across the state and improve the lives of Mississippians, the Mississippi Center for Justice provides a legal perspective on policy issues and seeks to develop systemic solutions in the areas of education, consumer rights, healthcare, affordable housing, and disaster recovery. This trip will not only provide the volunteers with an invaluable experience working in a non-profit legal setting, but it will also help us understand the many ways in which our burgeoning legal skills and careers could have a substantial and positive impact on a variety of social issues, clients, and communities.

We are raising funds to offset costs for travel (bus) and housing. $500 will cover one student's bus fare, and $300 will cover one student's housing for the week (~$45/night).

BILOXI, MS

18 students will travel to Biloxi, Mississippi to assist the Mississippi Center for Justice, using our legal skills to give back to a community in need. These students will have the opportunity to work on a variety of legal issues, including the BP oil spill recovery, post-Katrina housing litigation, and special education advocacy. Students work closely with legal services attorneys and clients, gaining valuable experience and serving the community.

We are raising money to offset costs for bus and housing. $500 will cover a student's roundtrip bus fare, and $300 will cover a student's housing for the week (~$45/night).

Every contribution is greatly appreciated by our students, legal aid hosts, and their clients in need!
