Our Team
Northwestern Formula Racing (NFR) is a team of more than 60 students from across our McCormick School of Engineering and Northwestern. We design, build, test, and race an open-wheel formula-style car every year. The design and construction of our vehicle provide students with the opportunity to supplement their world-class education with an aggressive practicum.
Our members work across five technical concentrations including aerodynamics, chassis, electronics, powertrain, and suspension. NFR is a small company, and beyond technical application, our team sees opportunities to develop and exercise their expertise in all areas of operation, including management, communication, finance, marketing, and leadership.
2018 was a landmark year for NFR. After a challenging transition to a new engine, requiring system-wide alterations, NFR'18 became the second car in team history to complete a grueling 22 Km endurance track at competition and placed 14th in acceleration at FSAE Lincoln.
Our Competition Class: Formula SAE
As registration allows, we compete at two events sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers annually, one at the Michigan International Speedway and another in Lincoln, Nebraska. Each contains a week-long series of presentations and events in which vehicles are scored both by their performance on the track and by evaluation by leading industry professionals.
Competition is fast approaching with FSAE Michigan in May.

Our ambitious endeavors would not be possible without your support. We hope you join us in building NFR19 and the next generation of engineers.
From stock to microcontrollers. Help us build and put a sub-component on the car.
Put a roof over our heads at competition for a week in Michigan or Nebraska. (It usually rains)
Put your name on our car and push us toward the finish line by supplying us with an integral component like a new Yamaha R6 engine.
Increase the size of your logo on our vehicle and get us to the race by covering our entry fees for one competition.
