Northwestern Bhangra was founded 11 years ago in an effort to promote awareness of Punjabi culture and has since grown into a team that performs all around the Chicagoland area, as well as at competitions across the nation. We are a diverse group, ranging from engineers to theatre majors, but we all share one common interest: celebrating the culture of the great state of Punjab. Bhangra has affected each of our lives in different ways: it has allowed us to express ourselves through art, immerse ourselves in our culture, and gain a heightened sense of community as we continue to grow as a team. We strive to represent Bhangra in its purest, most traditional form while still incorporating some modern flair into the dance.
This year we want to continue spreading our love and passion for Bhangra by holding local classes for our surrounding community and performing nationwide to meet and learn from other similar groups. We hope to create a larger space for people of all ages and backgrounds to engage with Bhangra and Punjabi culture and express themselves through an exciting and beautiful dance form. After spending months of hard work and dedication to put together a creative and engaging set, we want to push ourselves even further by performing and competing across the nation to solidify our presence in the Northwestern community for years to come. While we try our best to make Bhangra accessible to all, additional funds would allow us to truly uphold our mission and dedication to promote Punjabi culture and inspire many dancers.
