Applause for a Cause Feature Film: Dead Tongues
About Our Organization
Established in 2010, Applause for a Cause is the only student film organization on campus and—as far as we know—the only organization in the nation that creates a feature-length film and donates all the ticket proceeds from the premiere in May to a local Chicago-based charity. We are proud to provide this unique opportunity for students of all studies and backgrounds to combine their interest in filmmaking and their passion for altruism.
It is an exciting time for Applause since we are currently in the throes of production for this year’s film, Dead Tongues. We have our cast and our crew, and we are working to secure our location and update our equipment. When winter quarter approaches, we hope to have everything we need to run our shoots smoothly and without problems (fingers crossed). Unfortunately, as you know, nothing in this world is free. This is where you come in. We are seeking donations, in any amount, to help partially cover our production expenses, from props and special effects materials to lighting, sound, and camera accessories. We hope to make some investments for future Applause films, but we focus on being resourceful and making the most of our microbudget to make the best film possible. Anything you can offer will help, and if you are in town in May, we would love to see you at the premiere where you can see how your donations were put to good use!
Written by Christopher Reichert ('16)
Following the mysterious suicide of her ex-boyfriend, a woman teams up with his estranged twin brother to unearth the uncanny plot preceding her former lover’s death. (Inspired by H. P. Lovecraft’s short story, “Facts Concerning the Late Arthur Jermyn and His Family.”)
How you can help
You can donate to our Catalyzer by clicking on one of the levels beside this description, or you can even enter your own amount; $1 can go a long way! Even if you cannot donate to us at this time, you can still show your support by watching our video and sharing our project on social media and with family, friends, coworkers, and colleagues. We would greatly appreciate anything you can do for us. Let’s make a movie!
