Dance Film Festival 2018 (New Movement Project)
Who are we?
New Movement Project (NMP) aims to enrich and enhance the dance experience of all members of the Northwestern dance community. New Movement Project utilizes its resources as well as departmental, university, and community partnerships to provide students with elements of the dance experience not regularly provided by classroom curriculum.
The dance film festival is produced by New Movement Project in collaboration with a planning committee made up of a diverse group of film and dance students with involvement in student organizations including film production, urban hip hop crews, contemporary dance companies, and NMP. We are so excited to be establishing an event which promotes collaboration among film and dance students, because we believe that the best work stems from a collaborative process between diverse groups of movers and makers.
Why are we raising this money?
We are raising money to organize Northwestern’s first dance film festival in order to showcase dance films from Northwestern students and alumni. We are planning to show various works, and we will invite students and alumni to submit dance films in a variety of categories (open call, urban concept videos, alumni) as well as showing a full-length piece that a number of New Movement Project students have been working this quarter as an extensive winter exploration. The funds raised will allow us to organize guest speakers, secure alumni participants, and help support the production of additional student dance films for submission.
While students are consistently collaborating to create new screen dances, they are often uploaded immediately to YouTube and never presented live. Your support enables us to showcase the incredible dance films and concept videos created by students right here at Northwestern University. This festival will help student artists working in mixed mediums receive the recognition they deserve!
