Founded in 2014, NU Raas is Northwestern University's premier Raas/Garba dance team.
Raas/garba is a high energy and competitive co-ed folk dance originating from the Indian state of Gujarat. Our goal is to increase cultural awareness on campus of the South Asian community through dance.
We perform several shows per year and also compete at least once annually.
We are still a young competitive team and continue to grow. This year, we won our first competition at Pittsburgh Raaz—an experience that encouraged us to apply to additional competitions. As we gain members and put on more shows, additional resources are needed to keep our team up and running. Raas requires traditional Gujarati costumes, which we haven’t been able to purchase since our inception. Additionally, we need lighting and sound equipment to accentuate our choreography on stage and need photographers to document our performances
We would love to have your help in order to help keep the team accessible to all members and finance our love of performance, competition, and dance.
