The Dolphin Show at Northwestern University is a non-profit student theatre organization that annually produces the nation's largest student-run musical. It celebrates the diverse talents of the Northwestern undergraduate community by providing opportunities to learn and excel in all artistic and administrative fields. The Dolphin Show presents a professional-caliber production, while involving the community through outreach.
On January 22, 2016, our 74th productions opens. This year, we are presenting the critically-acclaimed musical, Gypsy, by Arthur Laurents, Jule Styne, and Stephen Sondheim.
Because it’s the largest student-produced show in America with the largest yearly team of participants, the Dolphin Show requires many resources to make it successful. We have large production costs and it is important to us to be more sustainable and efficient. To accomplish this, we need your help in making The Dolphin Show more sustainable both environmentally and economically.
Environmental: Each theatrical production at Northwestern uses materials like lumber for its performances. After the production has closed, there is often no identified use for any leftover lumber. We will use Catalyzer funds to deliver leftover and used-but-salvageable lumber to organizations like Habitat for Humanity so that these materials can be reused. Additionally, countless reams of paper are used by team members to create and share designs, ideas, and more. Through your financial support, we will purchase tablets for designers so they use less paper throughout the process.
Economic: The Dolphin Show has a huge budget, and a lot of that money goes to renting equipment like microphones. With your help, we will purchase that equipment, so that we don't have to rent it in future years.
