YOU INSPIRE US
We are absolutely ecstatic to have met our original goal thanks to our generous supporters. But once you exceed a goal, you strive even higher! We have many more plans we would love to incorporate into our show. Our new stretch goal is $1300, and any additional contributions toward this goal will continue to fund more costumes, better publicity, and new music.
WHO WE ARE
Founded in 2001, Northwestern Deeva (formerly Deeva Dance Troupe) has a unique mission: to generate and participate in an intercultural dialogue through dance.
Northwestern Deeva is a nationally recognized, all-female dance troupe that blends the best of Indian classical dance, Bollywood, ballet, lyrical dance, and hip-hop. Each dancer brings a unique background and knowledge of a variety of dance styles from all over the world. By choreographing dances that mix cultures, Deeva is excited to not only bring increased cultural awareness to the student body, but to have a cultural exchange through dance.
WHAT WE DO
Each year, Deeva goes to multi-team Bollywood Fusion dance competitions to show off their talent and hard work. Then, we bring our competition piece to perform at on-campus events, such as Diwali, SASA Show, the Blackout, and NUDM. Finally, we put on an annual spring show to showcase our choreography and give the chance for individual dancers to put forth their best moves.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
Our spring show is the grand finale of our Deeva season. It’s where we put all of our talent on display for the Northwestern community. A group of dancers producing a show takes a lot of work—and financing. Renting lighting equipment to make sure we can be seen on stage, hiring a photographer to document our performance, obtaining costumes and props to add finishing touches to our choreography, renting flooring suitable for dancing, and covering other miscellaneous expenses such as safety pins and duct tape are just some of the costs associated with producing a full-length performance.
Deeva Spring Show is a chance to express our unique blend of South Asian and American culture to our home base of family, friends, and peers at Northwestern. Entertainment is, of course, a goal, but we also use our spring show as a way to bring more dancers into our family and show how women of varying backgrounds can come together to promote a common goal: cultural competency.
To make sure Deeva remains accessible to all of our members and future members, we rely on the support of the greater Northwestern community to finance our love of performance, competition, and dance.
