Help Northwestern's Rowing Team
We have reached our original goal of $15,000! We have increased our goal to $25,000 to be able to buy all the necessary accessories to go along with our new boats including new sets of oars and new coxboxes. While we've made some phenomenal progress, we still need your support!
Who We Are:
The Northwestern rowing team, or NU Crew, was founded in 1981 by a student who wanted to continue his rowing career at Northwestern and introduce other students to the sport. Since its inception, the team has grown from a meagre 9 members to over 40 students this season. We compete all over the country in some of the largest regattas in the world to great success. In recent years, both the men's and women's teams have picked up medals at the Dad Vail Regatta, Midwest and National Championships, and Head of the Hooch Regatta, among others. Just last year, our crews placed among the top 8 boats in the country.
Over 90% of our budget relies on rowers paying dues or fundraising. As of now, we do not have the capacity to purchase new boats to ensure all members of our team get the chance to race this season.
We are a team of highly dedicated students, practicing over 20 hours each week and waking up before the sun rises to do what we love. We want to expand our team even more and ensure that every student dedicating their time to the team has a boat to row in.
What We Need:
One of the most important parts of any successful rowing program is purchasing new equipment. With the recent expansion of our team, we found ourselves unable to continue growing unless we purchased more boats. This is where you can help!
We are in the process of purchasing two new high quality racing shells to enable the entire team to practice throughout the spring racing season and beyond. These boats both seat four rowers and a coxswain. With any luck, they will continue winning races long after we have left Northwestern. To finanace the purchase of these boats we are hoping to raise $25,000.
Being a member of the rowing team is a very big part of each student-athlete's life at Northwestern, and we want to make sure that they are able to continue to do what they love and race at every regatta this season. Thank you for your support!
