Who are we?
For the past 30 years, Peace Project has been promoting awareness and activism at Northwestern University. We aim to increase awareness and promote real change on social justice issues on the local, national, and international stage. Our focus is on mobilizing people from all communities and experiences around fighting oppression, giving voice to marginalized peoples, and promoting human rights.
What is our project?
This year, Peace Project is undertaking an effort to support Al Bayan Magazine in an effort to strengthen bonds with Northwestern’s Muslim community and combat intensifying islamophobia. Al Bayan was founded 14 years ago as a small pamphlet put together by Northwestern's Muslim cultural Students Association (McSA), but in recent years it has undergone a dramatic revitalization as a journalistic publication, highlighting the diversity of the Muslim experience at universities, across America, and around the world. The staff has expanded, and Al Bayan has been recognized by Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism for its exemplary work. What is our goal?
Despite Al Bayan’s growing success, its funding from Associated Student Government (ASG) through the McSA has not increased in proportion to expansion. Although comparable magazines have budgets ranging from $3,000 to $5,000, Al Bayan receives $1,500 through ASG, limiting how many magazines can be printed and how far these vital student voices can reach.
Our goal is to raise another $1,500 to support Al Bayan’s expansion efforts. The funds we raise will go toward doubling the number of magazines printed and will also help launch a website where content can be archived and shared.
Your $10 donation will fund one month of web hosting for Al Bayan’s new website.
Your $20.17 donation will allow us to print 3 more copies of our magazine. This will also count as graduating seniors’ Class of 2017 gift, earning them special perks in the spring.
Your $50 donation will fund a launch event for the 2017 magazine, increasing our outreach.
Your $75 donation will allow us to print 10 more copies of our magazine.
Your $150 donation will help fund the addition of 4 pages in this year’s issue. Those pages will be filled with student-produced content and allow us to expand our coverage.
Your $250 donation will fund our new website for the next 2 years.
Your $500 donation will allow us to print 65 more copies of our magazine, dramatically increasing our presence at Northwestern.
