***UPDATE:***
We have surpassed our initial goal of $1000 and THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who donated already! However, that is only a portion of what we need to put on this show, so please help us reach our stretch goal of $2000!
Founded in the spring of 2015, Chamber Opera Initiative is a student organization dedicated to providing students at Northwestern with opportunities to augment their education through both the performance and administrative components of opera production. Our group not only creates much-needed additional performance opportunities for students, but also fosters entrepreneurial skills necessary for success in our future careers.
We are dedicated to showcasing lesser-known and small-scale operas, which allow performers to not only broaden their musical horizons, but also to experience a more intimate connection to the audience than traditional productions. This year we are planning on presenting Das Mahagonny Songspiel by Kurt Weill, L’enlèvement d’Europe by Darius Milhaud, Hin und zurück by Paul Hindemith, and The Princess and the Pea by Ernst Toch. These four chamber operas first premiered together in 1927 in Baden, Germany.
While there are numerous student theater groups at Northwestern and throughout the country, student opera groups are few and far between. We aim to supplement the fantastic education we receive at Northwestern so that when we leave and enter professional world, we leave confident in the knowledge that we possess the tools to succeed as freelance opera singers.
Your Class of 2017 gift goes towards producing student opera!
