What is our project?
Our mission as a student organization is to highlight and magnify the voices of Asian Americans in all sectors of society, from activism to government to arts and entertainment. “APAC Spring Speaker” is our largest speaker event, where we invite prominent Asian and Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) artists and speakers to share their experiences and discuss the role of their identities in shaping their work and philosophies.
Past speakers brought by APAC include Ruby Ibarra (Filipino American rapper and musician), Franny Choi (Korean American spoken word artist and activist), Ki-Hong Lee (actor in the Mazerunner movie series and Netflix’s original series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), and Wong Fu Productions (Asian American filmmaking group).
This year, our focus is on AAPI artists incorporating activism into their art. We hope to provide a platform for underrepresented artists; increase exposure for Asian American narratives in the mainstream; and promote discussions of race, identity, and political awareness in our community—but we need YOUR help to make it happen!
What is our goal?
Our goal is to raise $500 to cover some costs of the event. This will cover:
With your support, we can promote underrepresented Asian American artists and voices and maximize the event’s impact on our local community.
With your gift, you’ll help us reach out to the Evanston community and local organizations.
(For Class of 2017!) Make a contribution to APAC Spring Speaker as your Class of 2017 gift!
Your gift will help us value and sustain AAPI talents and professionals by funding an honorarium.
