Who are we?
Lovers & Madmen is Northwestern’s theater board dedicated to classical and classically-inspired theater on this campus! We produce mainstage shows, student-written works, and coordinate education and outreach programs on campus and in the community. We support the wonderful NU theater students across the board, and give them the chance to explore the classics in their work. Our recent mission is to expand the definition of classical theater to include different voices and new adaptations!
This winter we’re putting on Thunder Stealer: The Musical, produced by a wonderful team of students. Thunder Stealer is a musical adaptation of our generation’s beloved Percy Jackson book series. It tells the story of Percy, a teenager who discovers that one of his parents is a Greek god, and finds himself on a quest through the world of gods and demigods!
The Percy Jackson series is our version of mythology. The same way the Ancient Greeks would come together to sing about Odysseus and Achilles, we’re coming together to sing, dance, and laugh with Percy and his fellow demigods, and to learn what friendship, connection, and identity look like even in chaos!
Why are we raising this money?
Producing a show is expensive! This is a massive project involving a team of over 50 students. Our designers will be creating the world of Percy through costume, props, set design, lighting and sound. And our business/events team will use funds to do educational outreach, marketing, and engage the Northwestern community with our show! As a student production, our budget is small, so additional fundraising helps us really bring this show to life and realize the artistic dreams of everyone involved! We’ll also be able to bring a really powerful and nostalgic story to the Northwestern community, that will be an opportunity to come together and celebrate live theater again. With additional funds, we can make this show free to the community!
How can you help?
We hope to raise $4,000 to support our student team. This money will go towards our set ), costume, sound, lights, props, and marketing.
We need your help! As a student production, we’re relying on your support to produce this show. Anything you can give, big or small, goes a long way in supporting student art on this campus. We’d also love if you could share our campaign on social media so we can get even more outreach! Our teams are working so hard on this show and we’re so grateful for your support.
