Northwestern Pritzker School of Law is calling on our community to support students in need by giving to the STAR fund for #GivingTuesdayNow.
The Student Assistance and Relief (STAR) Fund was created to combat the disproportionate financial burden faced by some students; it ensures that all of our students can participate fully in our academic community. These burdens have been greatly amplified by the COVID-19 crisis. Our students are struggling in the face of delayed start dates for new jobs, canceled summer employment, ill family members, and myriad challenges caused by the shift to remote learning.
Once the COVID-19 crisis began, we circulated the STAR Fund application to our entire student body to ensure all students were aware of the Fund and had equal access to potential financial support. Since we circulated the STAR Fund application, we have received 70 applications, and this number increases by 2-5 applicants every single day. We have awarded more than $89,000 in emergency funds, and that number also continues to grow. We have exhausted the amount of funding budgeted for this year and are now relying on donor funds to support our students.
This year more students than ever will be facing emergencies, and together we turn to the Law School Community for help. Your donations will provide the support our students need to get through these uncertain times and ensure they can continue to participate fully in their education.
