About Us:
NU Votes is a nonpartisan, student-driven initiative to provide comprehensive, institutionalized 50-state voter registration for all members of the Northwestern community. Our organization encourages students to be actively engaged citizens while addressing the reality that registering to vote can be confusing and burdensome, especially for college students who are away from home or first-time voters.
To make this easier, NU Votes has integrated 50-state voter registration into the new student registration process with incredible success. Over the past four years, the NU Votes team has helped register an average of 90 percent of the eligible voters in each incoming class. During the year, NU Votes also offers walk-in voter registration, transportation to same-day voting centers, assistance for absentee voters, and much more.
About Our Project:
Registering to vote is the first step toward becoming an active citizen. Through the thoughtfully designed integration of voter registration with the campus orientation process, NU Votes has made this an accessible step for every student. But there is more to be done. With the 2016 presidential election on the horizon, we are looking to motivate students to participate in the democratic process.
Working with the Center on Civic Engagement, NU Votes envisions using support from crowdfunding to implement new tools that will make our registration process even simpler. We picture robust resources to ensure that students not only know that they may need an absentee ballot but also have the support to get one. We envision consistent programming that teaches students the logistics of casting a vote.
How You Can Help:
We are hoping to raise $5,000 so that we can achieve our goal of building better infrastructure to support the NU community in registering to vote and voting. Your gift will make a huge difference in promoting voting and civic engagement among NU students!
A gift of this amount allows us to print 100 copies of educational materials to provide students with nonpartisan information about voting registration.
A gift of this amount allows us to buy 40 stamps to mail voter registration & absentee ballot request forms.
A gift of this amount covers most of a tank of gas for the Voter Van that drives students to the location where they can register and/or vote.
This amount will allow us to hire an NU Votes staffer to help incoming students register to vote when they arrive on campus for Wildcat Welcome!
A gift of this amount will help us bring a guest speaker to campus to speak about voting rights and current issues.
A very generous donation of this amount will help pay for the application we are building, which will streamline voter registration for college students in all 50 states!
