This winter, for one weekend only, Lovers & Madmen presents Monty Python’s Spamalot: a new musical comedy lovingly ripped off from the motion picture Monty Python and the Holy Grail, directed by Jon Toussaint and produced by Jessica Nekritz. Spamalot is a feel-good comedic musical surrounding the legend of King Arthur. Produced by the classically inspired theatre board Lovers & Madmen, our production of Spamalot seeks to bring the show to life in a new light, bringing a diverse group of performers to roles traditionally portrayed by men and creating a space for people to grow as artists and laugh together as a community. Winter in Evanston is hard. It’s rarely sunny out; sometimes it’s cold enough to get hypothermia just by walking to class; and coursework kicks up a notch from fall quarter. Spamalot, with its classic British humor and uplifting and ridiculous storyline, will bring the community together, giving students a reason to smile.
We need your help to make Spamalot the best show it can be! As one of the largest student produced shows of the year, this musical requires costumes for our large cast, a set to transport McCormick Auditorium to Camelot, lights, sound, a band, and so much more. By donating to our show you are helping ensure that we meet the high expectations set by our audiences and show potential students the quality of student theatre at Northwestern.
Lovers and Madmen:
Lovers & Madmen is a student theatre group at Northwestern University that produces a full season of classical and classically inspired works each year. We seek to serve the NU, Evanston, and Chicago communities with our main stage season, as well as other smaller-scale productions, readings, and events. We are also committed to outreach, educational programming, and keeping in touch with our alumni.
A $10 gift will allow us to import European coconuts for King Arthur’s horse.
The Black Knight is attacking, and your senior gift will allow us to slice off his limbs!
The Bloodthirsty Rabbit must be fed, or he’ll bite the necks of our soldiers off! A $50 donation will help us save them!
The Knights of the Round Table require a shrubbery, so they don’t have to cut down trees with herring! A $100 donation will help us build it!
The Knights of the Round Table need armour to protect them from the wicked Knights of Ni. A $250 donation will help us rent it!
A $500 donation will let us transform McCormick Auditorium into Finland, Camelot, AND the Very Expensive Forest—all in one very small auditorium!
