Who are we?
For Us, By Us (F.U.B.U.) is an ongoing space for courageous conversations about, by, and for Black women–identifying and nonbinary folk. F.U.B.U. is dedicated to empowering individuals to be unapologetic in their Black identities as well as welcoming to other intersecting identities. Through community-building, organization, dialogue, and group discussion, members and participants will gain the tools they need to navigate the Northwestern environment with confidence, positive self-image, and the formation of healthy interpersonal relationships. F.U.B.U. is a space that consistently advocates for Black folk and validates shared experiences.
What is our mission in doing this project?
The purpose of this project is to invite an inspiring and sensational Black individual to speak to our student body. By inviting this individual to campus to speak about their work, story, and journey, we hope to reemphasize why representation is important and aim to inspire the next generation of visionaries to dream as big as this speaker did. Creating a space and visual representation for Black individuals to come together as a collective to see what heights they can reach as the invited individuals did would effectively foster an environment for personal and intellectual growth. This project aims to cultivate a space in which members congregate and unite to thrive and encourage success and prosperity among a group that typically faces many challenges.
