After building internal combustion cars for over a decade, Northwestern Formula Racing is now working on the team's first ever electric vehicle. The design cycle for NFR23 is already underway!
Our Team
Northwestern Formula Racing (NFR) is a team of 60 students from all backgrounds with one shared commitment: bringing our car to life. The design and construction of our vehicle empowers students to build upon their world-class education by applying their coursework to an intensive and interdisciplinary project.
Our members work across six technical concentrations—aerodynamics, chassis, hardware, powertrain, software, and suspension. NFR is a small organization, and beyond technical application, our members also develop and exercise their expertise in all areas of operation, including management, communication, finance, marketing, and leadership.
The Competition
Formula SAE is a prestigious and rigorous student design competition organized by SAE International. Started in 1980, Formula SAE now encompasses more than 250 student teams from around the world; each designing, building, and racing a unique Formula-style car.
As registration allows, we compete annually at a competition held at the Michigan International Speedway. This competition consists of a week-long series of presentations of events in which vehicles are scored both by their performance on the track and by evaluation by leading industry professionals.
How to Help
Thank You!
Our ambitious endeavors would not be possible without your support. We hope you join us in building NFR23 and the next generation of engineers.
From aluminum blanks to microcontrollers, help us build and put a subcomponent on the car.
Get us rolling and supply us with tungsten, argon, and other welding consumables so we can make our car strong.
Put a small sticker on the car and help us connect the electronic components of our car.
Increase the size of your sticker on the car and keep our battery and motor running and cool.
Send us a steel tube frame to hold the car together and keep the driver safe. Also receive an invitation to all major team events, including unveil and drive days.
